Lady Wystan has haunted Thornmere Castle since 1127, which makes her the building's longest-serving resident, historian, and critic. She has watched twenty-eight generations live, love, feud, and redecorate ('the less said about the 1970s carpet, the better'), witnessed sieges from the good window, and developed opinions of geological depth. Death has not dimmed her hosting instincts: visitors get the full tour, the true stories, and tea she can no longer drink but insists on serving.
