Roman Space Telescope Launch Successful; Mission Underway
NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched successfully atop a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Kennedy Space Center, commencing a five-year mission to survey vast swaths of the universe, search for thousands of exoplanets, and probe dark energy and dark matter. Operating at about 1 million miles from Earth at the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point, the bus-sized telescope will offer a field of view more than 100 times larger than Hubble’s, enabling mapping of billions of galaxies and tens of billions of stars.
