Global Yields Rise Ahead of Warsh Speech
Global bond markets advanced mixed signals ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole keynote, with U.S. Treasuries nudging higher as investors await guidance on the rate path. In the United States, the 10-year Treasury yield rose slightly to roughly 4.68% while the 30-year yield hovered near recent highs, as traders weighed the potential implications of Warsh’s stance on disinflation and policy. European yields also climbed, with the German 10-year Bund hitting a 15-year high and the gilt yield rising, reflecting euro-area sensitivity to energy prices and fiscal uncertainties. In India, the 10-year G-Sec yield climbed to about 6.91% amid heavy supply and expectations of a possible RBI rate hike, even as easing Brent crude provided some inflation relief. The RBI’s dollar interventions and cautious guidance from minutes of its August meeting kept markets wary about near-term policy moves and how US monetary signals could influence capital flows. Investors also awaited details on India’s ₹34,000 crore debt sale, expecting higher yields to reflect auction concessions and elevated inflation risks.
