Engstler Career Night Helps Fire Beat Dream 101-83

The Portland Fire defeated the Atlanta Dream 101-83 to snap Atlanta’s four-game win streak, with Emily Engstler pouring in a career-high 25 points and Carla Leite adding 26 as Portland shot 58% from the floor. Engstler also contributed six rebounds, four steals and four blocks, while Leite hit all four of her 3-pointers and dished six assists. Angel Reese tallied 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Dream, who fell to 25-14 and into fifth place, tying a season double-double record with her 28th; Rhyne Howard added 26 for Atlanta. DeWanna Bonner did not play for Atlanta after being bought out by Phoenix to join a contender. Portland, now 16-23, led 52-38 at halftime and built their margin with a strong start and late perimeter responder Holly Winterburn’s banked 3 late in the shot clock. Portland will host Golden State while Atlanta visits Minnesota on Sunday before the FIBA World Cup break.
