The Rescue of Baby Jessica
From 1987 · a Good News classic
Eighteen-month-old Jessica McClure fell 22 feet into an eight-inch well casing in Midland, Texas. For two and a half days, drillers and paramedics carved a parallel shaft through rock while the country watched live — one of the first news events to unite a cable-news nation. When paramedic Robert O'Donnell finally slid her free, bells rang across Midland. She grew up healthy, married, and a mother.
