During the Berlin Airlift, pilot Gail Halvorsen met children watching the planes through a fence and promised to drop them candy, saying he'd wiggle his wings so they'd know it was him. 'Uncle Wiggly Wings' set off Operation Little Vittles: American crews and candy companies eventually dropped 23 tons of chocolate and gum over blockaded Berlin, turning former enemies into lifelong friends.
