Harington Replaces Hoult as Lockhart for Season 2
HBO's Harry Potter TV series has recast Gilderoy Lockhart for Season 2, with Kit Harington replacing Nicholas Hoult due to scheduling conflicts. Season 2 will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, continuing the show’s plan to alternate book adaptations each season. Hoult will no longer appear, and Harington—who previously voiced Lockhart in the Audible Full-Cast Audio Editions—is stepping into the live-action role. Production for Season 2 is slated to begin in fall 2026, following Season 1’s December premiere. The switch keeps Lockhart central to the season’s plot as the flamboyant new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. HBO’s renewal and casting moves come amid anticipation for the Christmas release of Season 1 and broader franchise expansion.
