Desmond Doss Saves 75 Men Without a Weapon

Army medic Desmond Doss, a Seventh-day Adventist who refused to touch a weapon, stayed alone on top of Okinawa's Maeda Escarpment after his battalion was driven off. Under fire, he dragged wounded soldier after wounded soldier to the cliff edge and lowered them by rope, praying each time for the strength to save one more. He was the first conscientious objector awarded the Medal of Honor.
