Zhu Rongji dies at 97
Zhu Rongji, who led China’s economic reforms as premier from 1998 to 2003, engineered sweeping SOE privatizations, tax and financial reforms, and secured China’s entry into the World Trade Organization. He also advanced China–South Korea cooperation and helped Shanghai become a global financial hub before dying in Beijing on August 12 at the age of 97.
