Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor is a play in four acts by American playwright James Herne. The play premiered on September 27, 1900 for the grand opening of Oscar Hammerstein I's Theatre Republic; a theatre located on West 42nd Street next to the Victoria Music Hall. The production's sets were designed by Frank E. Gates, E. A. Morange and Ernest Albert. The premiere cast included the author in the role of Capt. Dan Marble. Other cast members in the premiere included Lionel Barrymore as Frank Turner, Frank Monroe as William Turner, Forrest Robinson as Ben Turner, William Hodge as Freeman Whitmarsh, Charles Dibdin Pitt as George Salter, Margaret Dibden Pitt as Susan Murphy, John D. Garrick as Hosea Stevens, Mrs. Sol Smith as Mrs. John Russell, Marion Abbott as Elizabeth Ann, Julia A. Herne as Martha Reese, Chrystal Herne as Jane Cauldwell, Mollie Revel as Frances Town, and Harriett McDonald as Miss Dolly.
