In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Phantasos ('apparition' 'fantasy' from , phantasíā, 'appearance' 'imagination') is one of the thousand sons of Somnus (Sleep). He appeared in dreams in the form of inanimate objects, putting on "deceptive shapes of earth, rocks, water, trees, all lifeless things".
