Kerala’s famed Vallam Kali Nehru Trophy race is set to proceed with about 20 30–100 meter wooden snake boats paddled by around 100 rowers each on a 1.4 km course at Punnamada Lake, as communities persevere through devastating floods and tight finances to keep the tradition alive. Despite displacement, infrastructure damage, and limited government support, local clubs like the United Boat Club continue rigorous twice-daily practice to defend their legacy and unite diverse religious communities through this centuries-old cultural spectacle.
