Michael Keating

Michael Keating (born 1959) is the executive director of the European Institute of Peace, an independent conflict resolution organisation based in Brussels, with activities in fifteen countries in Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Latin America. He was the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), from January 2016 until September 2018. Early life and education Keating was born in 1959 in Kampala, Uganda and raised in Africa. He has a Master of Arts in history from the University of Cambridge. Career Keating's career has been divided between the private and public sectors. His private sector experience includes five years in financial publishing in the city of London; working in television as associate producer on documentaries broadcast by the BBC and Channel 4; and running Media Natura, a management and communication consultancy whose clients included companies and public sector bodies engaged in environmental, human rights, and development issues.
