The Imperial Japanese Navy dispatched Malaya Force consisting of the aircraft carrier Ryūjō, six cruisers, a light cruiser and four destroyers on a raid in the northern Bay of Bengal concurrent with Operation C in April 1942 against British Ceylon and the Eastern Fleet. The force departed from Mergui on 1 April.
