Mother and infant named in Liberty Island boat capsizing
A motorboat capsized near Liberty Island in New York Harbor late Saturday, killing a 27-year-old woman and her 5-month-old daughter after 14 people were aboard on a boat with a typical 10-person capacity. The captain, Manuel Hernandez, 46, has been charged with 13 counts of reckless endangerment as authorities investigate the overcrowding and circumstances surrounding the crash, while the remaining passengers were rescued.

Liberty Island is a federally owned island in Upper New York Bay in the United States. Its most notable feature is the Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World), a large statue by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi that was dedicated in 1886.
