Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. As of the 2020 census, the population was 55,478. Its county seat and largest city is Ellsworth. The county was incorporated on June 25, 1789, and named for John Hancock, the first governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
