Essex industrial blast rattles Rettendon, countywide

A large industrial unit fire on Southend Road between East Hanningfield and Rettendon caused enormous explosions and a massive smoke plume visible across south Essex, with residents reporting their homes shaking and windows rattling miles away. Fire authorities urged nearby residents to stay clear, close windows and doors, and await updates as investigators determine the cause.
