Davidson College is a private highly selective liberal arts college in Davidson, North Carolina. It was established in 1837 by the Concord Presbytery and named after Revolutionary War general William Lee Davidson, who was killed at the nearby Battle of Cowan’s Ford. Davidson College is referred to and identified as a "hidden ivy" in Greenes' Guide to Educational Planning as an institution of higher education that rivals the eight Ivy League schools without being part of that group as it turns away thousands of extremely qualified applicants year after year.
