Albany Unified School District

Albany Unified School District includes seven schools in Albany, California, United States. History The school district was founded in February 1908 with students initially attending school in a converted barn on Brighton street. In December 1908, the district completed construction of its first building, Albany School, on Solano Avenue between Cornell and Talbot. Albany built its first high school in the 1930s. In 1944, the Federal Housing Authority built Codonices Elementary School for children of war workers living in Codonices Village. The current middle school opened in 1999 on the site of a former lumberyard. The current high school building opened in 2001. Demographics Albany schools served 3501 students in the 2020-21 school year. In recent years enrollment fell -- the 2015-16 enrollment was 3822. The 2010-11 enrollment was 3879. In 2020-21 the student body was quite diverse with reported race/ethnicity of 1058 Asian, 1043 White, 591 Hispanic or Latino, 501 two or more races, 189 None Reported, 135 Black or African American.
