For years, leaders in Virginia and Maryland promised safety for their towns. Instead, they let dangerous criminals walk free while residents paid the price. The truth finally came out this week when federal agents moved in. ICE arrested 1,328 people in just two weeks across these two states.
The Numbers Behind the Sweep
This wasn’t some small police action you could miss on your morning drive. It was a massive federal operation called Operation Safe Community — Washington, D.C. The clock ran from August 1 to August 14. According to reports, federal sources say this is one of the agency’s most successful operations to date. The target list was clear. Agents went after anyone in the U.S. illegally, regardless of their past.
Yet the results show why this work was so urgent. Nearly 400 of those arrested had criminal convictions or pending charges. The list includes rape, kidnapping, robbery, and drunk driving. One man wanted for murder in Richmond was caught. Another faced charges for attempted murder. These are not minor issues. They are threats to your family’s safety.
Local Leaders vs. Federal Reality
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore tried to block these efforts. They called themselves protectors of their communities. But Fox News reports that the operation happened right in their backyard. The feds targeted sanctuary suburbs around Washington, D.C. Many of the people arrested tried to run or fight the agents. The law won every time.
According to Fox News, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin explained precisely the implications of this situation. He stated that the courageous ICE personnel work tirelessly each day to remove these perilous illegal aliens from the nation. He didn’t mince words about the local politicians either. Markwayne Mullin observed that while sanctuary politicians in Virginia and Maryland prioritize illegal aliens over American safety, the Trump Administration will consistently prioritize American citizens.
Why did local leaders fight so hard to stop this? They claimed they were protecting rights. But the facts show they were protecting criminals. RedState notes that these states have seen significant crime involving illegal immigrants. The leaders knew the risks but chose to ignore them. Now the results are public. The arrests speak for themselves.
Spanberger and Moore still haven’t answered the accountability question. Who told them it was safe to ignore the law in the first place?
