Spy Kids

Spy Kids is a 2001 American spy action comedy film co-produced, written, edited, co-composed, and directed by Robert Rodriguez. The film stars Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alan Cumming, Teri Hatcher, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Robert Patrick, Tony Shalhoub, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara. Spy Kids premiered at Disney's California Adventure in Los Angeles, California on March 18, 2001, and released in the United States on March 30, by Dimension Films. The film received positive reviews from critics and grossed over $147 million worldwide against a production budget of $35 million. The film was nominated for Best Fantasy Film at the 28th Saturn Awards, but lost to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The success of Spy Kids led to a franchise, with four sequels being released: Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams in 2002, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over in 2003, and Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 2011.
