Rufus Edward Foster

Rufus Edward Foster (May 22, 1871 – August 23, 1942) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Education and career Born in Mathews County, Virginia, Foster received a Bachelor of Laws from Tulane University Law School in 1895. He was in the United States Army as a Lieutenant from 1898 to 1899. He was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana from 1905 to 1908. He was the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana in 1908. He was a Professor of Law for the Tulane University Law School from 1912 to 1927, and Dean of that institution from 1920 to 1927. Federal judicial service
