9 is a 2009 adult animated science fiction film directed by Shane Acker and written by Pamela Pettler. It is based on Acker's 2005 short film 9. Set in an alternate version of the 1940s, the film stars Elijah Wood as "9", a rag doll who awakens shortly after the end of humanity following the uprising of machines. John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, and Fred Tatasciore voice supporting roles.

When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction.
