Zhejiang Taizhou makes landfall as Saudel hits coast

Typhoon Saudel, the 18th typhoon of the year, made landfall in Zhejiang province, China, with authorities issuing red alerts and warning of torrential rainfall and damaging winds along the coast. In Taizhou and surrounding Zhejiang areas, officials urged residents to brace for heavy rain and strong winds as Saudel crossed the coast. The storm previously battered Japan’s Okinawa and Amami islands, causing widespread power outages and significant flight disruptions before moving into the East China Sea. Forecasters said Saudel remains capable of producing strong winds and heavy rain as it tracks toward China’s southeastern coast, raising flood and landslide risks. The system’s moisture is expected to travel across the Pacific toward British Columbia, potentially bringing rainfall even as Saudel weakens after landfall. Across affected areas, tens of thousands of homes lost power and numerous flights were canceled, underscoring the broad disruption caused by Saudel.
