Typhoon Dolphin Makes Landfall in Zhejiang, Triggers Evacuations

Typhoon Dolphin made landfall near Taizhou, Zhejiang, with sustained winds about 151 km/h, prompting red typhoon and flash-flood warnings as heavy rain threatened Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu and Anhui. Authorities evacuated hundreds of thousands, with Taizhou evacuations around 390,000 and Shanghai moving tens of thousands, helping push total evacuations past the million-mark. Transport was heavily disrupted, with Shanghai and Hangzhou airports canceling more than 1,300 flights and airlines adjusting services to cope with the weather. Forecasters warned of 250–500 mm of rainfall along parts of the coast and the risk of flash floods, landslides, and water-logging as Dolphin moves inland and weakens slowly. The storm also battered Okinawa, causing injuries and power outages, while Taiwan and Hong Kong faced heavy rain and flight disruptions as Dolphin approached; authorities warned that prolonged downpours could extend flood and landslide risks across eastern China in the coming days.
