Tam Tam Wins Del Mar Oaks G1

Tam Tam, a 3-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly trained by Phil Bauer for Rigney Racing, shipped west and captured the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks by 1 1/4 lengths after tracking Kensington Lane early and surging in the stretch. The 1 1/8-mile turf race was run in 1:48.06 with Junior Alvarado aboard, marking both his and Bauer’s first Del Mar stakes win. Lookin At Diamond, a 40-1 longshot, rallied to finish second, while Kensington Lane faded to third after setting the early pace. Tam Tam’s victory was her first graded stakes win, adding to her Tepin Stakes triumph at Churchill and lifting her earnings to about $648,800. The win on Del Mar’s Saturday card showcased Rigney Racing’s versatile mare and reinforced Tam Tam’s value as a broodmare, following a breakout season that included a graded stakes win. In the same program, Alvarado followed with a victory aboard Knightsbridge in the Pacific Classic, also on the same day.
