Padres' Rengifo exits Rays game with knee sprain
The San Diego Padres suffered a 7-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays as Luis Rengifo exited in the seventh inning with a right knee sprain after a non-contact awkward throw home. He will fly back to San Diego for imaging and further evaluation of the knee injury. The play occurred during a throw from Rengifo at the plate, after which his leg appeared to buckle, forcing him off the field on a medical cart. Rengifo had been a productive mid-season addition for San Diego, contributing solid numbers in limited time after joining the team. Padres officials indicated he is receiving treatment and will undergo additional testing to determine recovery timelines. The injury comes as the Padres, who are in the wild-card race, could face reduced depth if Rengifo misses extended time.
