Rockies place Freeland on 15-day IL with cervical radiculopathy

Colorado Rockies placed left-hander Kyle Freeland on the 15-day IL with cervical radiculopathy, retroactive to Aug. 21, after neck and shoulder issues during a start against the Dodgers. Blake Adams was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his roster spot, providing another right-handed option for a struggling rotation. Adams has spent most of the season between Double-A and Triple-A with a 6.52 ERA in 25 minor league appearances, and Colorado could also rely on Mason Adams as additional rotation depth. Freeland is 4-10 with a 6.37 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 124.1 innings this season, and his absence leaves a need to cover significant innings. The Rockies expect Mason Adams to join the rotation while Freeland is out, with a rough return window around Sept. 5. This move comes as the team looks to stabilize its pitching depth during a difficult stretch.
