Cardinals Activate Sweat, Make Multiple Roster Moves
The Arizona Cardinals activated edge rusher Josh Sweat from the physically unable to perform list, returning him in time to contribute before their upcoming game with the Packers. Sweat has rehabbed a knee injury and led the team with 12 sacks last season, signaling a key defensive addition as the team reshapes its depth. In the same round of moves, the Cardinals waived/injured running back Trey Benson, a 2024 third-round pick who has battled injuries throughout his stint in Arizona. The team also placed wide receiver Xavier Weaver on injured reserve after a hamstring setback in the preseason and signed safeties Hudson Clark and Devyn Bobby to bolster the secondary, which had taken hits in the Cowboys game. Additionally, safeties Rabbit Taylor-Demerson and Wydett Williams, along with cornerback Kalen King, were diagnosed with concussions, and the club released tight end Baylor Cupp and wide receiver Bryson Green, creating a roster spot likely for a punter after Blake Gillikin injured his groin. The Cardinals’ moves come as they prepare for their final preseason game and the start of the regular season.
