Liverpool stake sale to Bezos-backed group
A consortium led by Amit Bhatia, with Jeff Bezos- backed 1892 Holdings and Eduardo Saverin's EE Capital, agreed to acquire roughly 30% of Liverpool FC from Fenway Sports Group. The deal values the club at about £5–£6 billion, with the stake priced around £1.7 billion. FSG will retain majority ownership and day-to-day control; Bhatia will become vice-chairman and join Liverpool’s board, while Bezos will not sit on the board but participates through the investment vehicle, and Saverin’s family office is a key backer. The deal includes an option to move toward a controlling stake within the next year, though that is not guaranteed. The sale is subject to regulatory approval, and supporters’ groups have called for engagement on how the new partners will influence the club’s future and sustainability. The transaction marks Bezos’ first foray into sports ownership and underscores the Premier League’s appeal to high-profile, globally diversified investors.
