Port of Los Angeles Posts Second-Busiest July
The Port of Los Angeles processed 960,464 TEUs in July, ranking as the second-busiest July on record, with volumes 6% below last year’s all-time July high but 7.5% above the five-year July average. After topping 1 million in June, July nearly matched that level as robust consumer demand and opportunistic shipments kept cargo moving ahead of tariff changes and other uncertainties. Imports totaled 499,552 TEUs, exports 111,776 TEUs, and empties 349,137 TEUs, with year-over-year declines in imports and exports. Through the first seven months of 2026, the port has handled about 6.08 million TEUs, roughly 1.8% ahead of last year. Analysts and port officials cite resilient demand and early peak-season dynamics, including front-loading by retailers ahead of tariff adjustments, with expectations for continued solid volume into August, potentially exceeding 900,000 TEUs. The Port emphasized capacity and readiness to handle additional volume if needed, underscoring the broader outlook for sustained high activity in 2026.
