OpenAI Rolls Out ChatGPT for Teens
OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT with a teen-focused version that tightens safety controls, emphasizes learning over quick answers, and introduces parental protections and study modes to guide users aged 13 to 17. The teen experience also aims to curb anthropomorphism by limiting romantic language and emphasizing break reminders and privacy protections as part of a broader effort to steer teens toward safe AI use. Separately, the company has added a macOS feature called Computer History that lets ChatGPT learn from on-device activity with opt-out options and clear data controls. In parallel, OpenAI has begun rolling out ChatGPT Ads in Latin America, launching in Mexico and Brazil with multiple purchase routes as part of a broader monetization push. Europe is now slated for a major ad rollout as well, balancing paid and free user experiences under stringent consumer protections while exploring sustainable revenue. Taken together, these moves reflect OpenAI’s dual focus on safer, education-oriented use for younger users and a strategic expansion of advertising-driven revenue across global markets.
