Oregon City music teacher arrested for rape, kidnapping
Derek Douglas Reeder, 44, an Oregon City music teacher and owner of Slinky Strings, was arrested and indicted on charges including rape, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and assault in connection with an alleged relationship with a minor that began when he taught at a local nonprofit in 2023. Investigators say the abuse occurred on multiple occasions after he stopped teaching at the nonprofit in 2024, with communications via text and Instagram continuing as they pursued the case in 2026. The allegations, which also involve grooming a girl who was 13 at the start of the relationship, led to Reeder’s firing from the nonprofit and ongoing concerns about additional potential victims. He remains jailed without bail as authorities pursue further investigation and possible more victims, with investigations noting his involvement in guitar lessons through Slinky Strings. Court proceedings included an arraignment, during which prosecutors sought a substantial bond, and Reeder has been ordered to stay away from the victim. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tip line to aid the inquiry.
