NHL referee Rank wins fourth Canadian Mid-Amateur
Garrett Rank, a Waterloo, Ontario-born NHL referee, won his fourth Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Brantford Golf & Country Club, finishing 18-under 270 after a final-round 69. He entered the last round two shots back of Evan Nachtigall but tied it with a late surge, sinking a 6-foot par putt on the final hole to claim the title by one stroke as Nachtigall bogeyed the last. Rank’s victory adds to a distinguished list of national golf titles, including previous Canadian Mid-Am wins in 2014-2016 and other championships, highlighting his dual career as a referee and competitive golfer. He reflected that the win was a huge honor and that his officiating experience helps his golf—and vice versa—emphasizing resilience on and off the course. The win also secures Rank an invitation to the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at Sand Valley Resort later this year. Rank has previously officiated high-profile hockey games, including his first NHL game in 2015 and his Stanley Cup Final debut this season.
