Movable Middle Reaches 28% as Spiritual Openness Grows

New research shows renewed spiritual curiosity across the United States, yet interest in faith does not always lead to deeper engagement. The American Bible Society's State of theBible USA 2026 reports 28% of Americans in the Movable Middle open to the Bible but not deeply engaged, a gain of about nine million since 2024. Barna's 2026 State of the Church similarly finds growing openness while long-term Christian formation lags.
