Evonik Plans CAD150M Vancouver Lipid-Drug Facility
Evonik is investing more than 150 million CAD to build a new GMP drug product manufacturing facility in Vancouver to expand lipid-based drug delivery capabilities, with up to 68 million CAD in federal funding support. The facility will more than triple Evonik's current manufacturing capacity for advanced pharmaceutical products and will advance quality control and microbiological testing, enabling more efficient clinical-to-commercial production. Drug product production is planned to begin by the end of 2029. The investment, backed by Canada's Strategic Response Fund, highlights government support for life sciences and strengthens Canada’s growing Bay Area-like cluster in British Columbia. Lauren Kjeldsen of Evonik emphasized that lipid-based delivery technologies enable next-generation medicines and that this investment will accelerate development and commercialization of new therapies. The Vancouver region is depicted as a vibrant life sciences hub with a large concentration of companies and employment, underscoring the broader regional growth in the sector.
