Daisy Chain Fields Raises $20M With Gates Match
Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine featured a high-profile all-female lineup and surprise appearances by Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette, with 100% of net proceeds initially announced at $10 million donated to 10 women-and-girls nonprofits; Melinda French Gates matched the donation, bringing total giving to $20 million. Beneficiaries now include Baby2Baby, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, the Center for Reproductive Rights, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, the National Institute for Reproductive Health, the National Women’s Law Center, and Planned Parenthood. Organizers note that artists waived fees to maximize impact, and Rodrigo framed the event as part of a Lilith Fair-inspired movement to empower women globally. The festival highlighted heat-management measures, with hydration and cooling options for attendees amid extreme heat. Rodrigo indicated the event will return next year and become an ongoing impact platform beyond a single celebration.
