Columbia Police Officer Killed, Second Officer Wounded

A Columbia, South Carolina police officer, Christopher DeLong, 29, was killed and a second officer, David Dymock, injured in a Saturday morning gunfight after responding to a domestic-dispute call; the suspect, Adam Tyler Dowdy, also died. The officers had been dispatched after a woman reported a restraining order violation and property damage at her home; Dowdy had left before they arrived but was located about an hour later, leading to the exchange. Chief W.H. Holbrook thanked the community and said the department is heartbroken; Dymock is in stable condition. Dowdy has a long arrest history across multiple states, including disorderly conduct, contempt of court, public intoxication, and possession of a controlled substance. DeLong, who served two years with CPD, is survived by a wife and two young children, and his wife described him as the best dad to their babies. The investigation is ongoing by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
