Charges Suspended for Ex-Marine at Trump Golf Courses

A judge suspended criminal proceedings against Jeanine John Taele, a 38-year-old U.S. Marine veteran, who was arrested at President Donald Trump’s Los Angeles-area golf course with a loaded 9mm pistol, ammunition, binoculars and a badge reading “security protection agent.” Taele was ordered to mental health court for a competency evaluation after pretrial findings suggested he wasn’t fit to stand trial, with him claiming in the evaluation to have been a State Department official for 14 years. Investigators recovered 208 pages of writings—including schedules for First Lady Melania Trump and Secret Service personnel as well as lists about surviving “off the grid”—found following his arrest. The judge cited concerns about violence and partisan tensions in the current political climate ahead of the midterms. Authorities noted a prior November 2025 arrest at an AT&T store connected to accusations of spying and a separate second-degree robbery charge, and Taele faces multiple felonies including possession of a short-barreled rifle and large-capacity magazines. The case remains under psychiatric evaluation and, per reports, charges were suspended with Taele remaining in custody as proceedings continue.
