President Donald Trump is taking aim at Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) as she faces mounting criticism from some of her Republican colleagues.
On Thursday morning, the president took to Twitter with a message targeting Cheney. Trump explained why he thinks Cheney is critical of him.
“Liz Cheney is only upset because I have been actively getting our great and beautiful Country out of the ridiculous and costly Endless Wars,” Trump tweeted. “I am also making our so-called allies pay tens of billions of dollars in delinquent military costs. They must, at least, treat us fairly!!!”
Shortly after tweeting about Cheney, Trump retweeted a post from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) where he accused her of “leading to fight” against the president withdrawing U.S. military troops from overseas, according to The Hill.
His tweet read, “We should all join in advocating to stop our endless wars. Liz Cheney not only wants to stay forever, she’s leading the fight to try to stop him from leaving. Unacceptable.”
Trump’s tweet targeting Cheney comes amid reports on her clash with some House Republicans over her support of Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) opponent during the primary election.
Cheney also faced Republican backlash for her support and defense of Dr. Anthony Fauci amid the pandemic.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) called for Cheney to be removed from her role as Chair of the House Republican Conference. Gaetz accused Cheney of conspiring “behind the scenes” against Trump.
The Florida congressman tweeted, “Liz Cheney has worked behind the scenes (and now in public) against and his agenda. House Republicans deserve better as our Conference Chair. Liz Cheney should step down or be removed.”
However, Cheney dismissed Gaetz’s demand for her removal as she made it clear she is “not going anyplace.”
