Swalwell Swipes Back at McCarthy Over Resolution To Remove Him From Intel Committee

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is firing back at House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for filing a resolution calling for the California Democrat’s removal from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence over his previous connection with an alleged Chinese spy.
The resolution claims Swalwell “has not denied public reporting that a suspected Chinese intelligence operative helped raise money for Representative Swalwell’s political campaigns and facilitated the potential assignment of interns into Representative Swalwell’s offices.”
It also says Swalwell has not denied “other troublesome elements of public reporting.”
Swalwell took to Twitter to blast McCarthy, “Meet the New McCarthyism. Multiple sentences in resolution state ‘Swalwell has not denied…’ Yet fails to include multiple FBI statements of ‘no wrongdoing’ and did nothing but ‘cooperate.’ All of this to deflect from support for QAnon.”
The alleged spy, named Fang Fang, reportedly helped Swalwell with fundraising for his 2014 re-election campaign. She also allegedly helped recruit one intern to work for him.
In December of 2020, Swalwell said he gave the FBI information about her and has not had contact with her in six years.
McCarthy came under fire from other lawmakers for failing to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) of her committee assignments for her previous comments.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement last month, “After several conversations and literally running away from reporters, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Q-CA) made clear that he is refusing to take action against conspiracy theorist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.”
She added, “McCarthy’s failure to lead his party effectively hands the keys over to Greene – an anti-Semite, QAnon adherent and 9/11 Truther.”
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told CNN he thought it was a “mistake” the way McCarthy handled Greene’s comments.
He also said he wished McCarthy “would have” taken a stronger stand.
