House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) turned to the Bible in support of a $40 billion military and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine.
During a speech on the House floor Tuesday, Pelosi said, “When you’re home thinking, ‘What is this all about?’ Just think about ‘When I was hungry, you fed me’ from the Gospel of Matthew.”

Pelosi’s decision to invoke the Bible in defense of the package did not go over well with some.

Pelosi’s remarks came before the House voted 368-57 to advance a $40 billion aid package for Ukraine.
The bill is $7 billion larger than President Joe Biden requested.
All Democrats voted for the bill, with 149 Republicans joining them and 57 voting against the package.
The bill provides $15 billion for military equipment, training, intelligence support, and to pay salaries for Ukraine’s national security forces.
It includes another $14 billion for humanitarian programs and $5 billion to address global food insecurity.
The package now heads to the Senate, where it is expected to pass.
The Washington Post notes, “Aid for Ukraine has so far drawn bipartisan support, including a House vote of 417 to 10 to pass a lend-lease bill expediting weapons shipments to Ukraine — a measure that Biden signed into law on Monday.
