Nick Reiner has been indicted on Murder charges in the deaths of his parents, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, with prosecutors adding special circumstance allegations that could carry severe penalties if he is convicted.
According to the New York Post, Reiner, 33, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two counts of Murder after the grand jury indictment was unsealed. The case now moves toward trial, with Reiner scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing Sept. 15.
The indictment alleges multiple murders and Murder by means of lying in wait. Prosecutors also accuse Reiner of personally using a knife as a deadly weapon.
The filing further alleges that the killings involved "great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, or other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, or calousness." The victims are also described as "particularly vulnerable."
