Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said if Sen. Dave McCormick(R-Pa.) decides to run for a second term in 2030, he will not campaign against him.

Fetterman was asked whether he would support or oppose McCormick’s potential run by the Washington Examiner.

“Well, I would absolutely never move against my friend,” Fetterman said. He sidestepped whether he would endorse McCormick’s campaign, but called him a “great guy.”

Pennsylvania is just one of three states with split representation in the Senate. Although they come from opposite sides of the aisle, the two have done media appearances together and co-sponsored bills.

In July, they took it up a notch by filing a joint new political action committee, called Common Ground PA. The PAC is accepting donations from those who want to support both lawmakers.

“This group of donors value the collaboration exhibited by Senators McCormick and Fetterman for Pennsylvania and want to support both of them,” a spokesperson told The Center Square

The admiration continued Sunday when McCormick praised Fetterman while on “The Cats Roundtable” with host John Catsimatidis.

“He’s willing to stand up and call out the craziness that’s happening in his party,” McCormick said, pointnting to wins in Democratic primaries for progressive candidates during the 2026 midterms.

“It’s made him unpopular with some of the people in his party,” he said.

McCormick continued, stating he was “lucky to have a good partner in Pennsylvania.”

There has been speculation that Fetterman would join the Republican Party, a notion the Democrat has dismissed.

At the Hill Nation Summit, Fetterman said he had “no plans” to leave the Democratic Party. He added a caveat that he would consider leaving if the party turned its back on Israel.

“If our party ever becomes — and just makes it official — the anti-Israel party, that’s when I would leave because that’s been a moral clarity for me,” he said.
