The FBI seized electronic devices belonging to former Rep. Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport Saturday night as part of an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
At least one cellphone was among the devices taken from Swalwell, the sources told Fox News.
The former California congressman was not arrested or detained during the airport incident.
The investigation took another step Sunday when federal authorities searched Swalwell’s home in Washington, D.C., according to a source familiar with the matter.
The circumstances surrounding the investigation remain unclear.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the allegations under review or said what information investigators sought when they seized Swalwell’s devices.
Swalwell, a Democrat who represented California in Congress, resigned from the House in April and ended his campaign for governor of California.
His departure from Congress came after he had established a national profile during his time in Washington and through frequent appearances on television news programs.
