Shatner, Daughter Cancer-Free, Launch Podcast
William Shatner, 95, and his daughter Melanie Shatner Gretsch, 61, faced stage 4 cancers within months of each other, with William's malignant melanoma spreading to his lungs and brain and Melanie diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer. Both underwent intensive treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, targeted therapies, and immunotherapy, and have been cancer-free for about a year and a half. The ordeal strengthened a deeply bonded family, with Shatner repeatedly supporting Melanie, including a late-night “daddy bear hug” that helped her through fear. Melanie feared losing her father during her treatment, but his optimism and the family’s unity kept them moving forward. They are using their experience to encourage hope and resilience, and have discussed plans and projects together, including a podcast titled.
