Cuneta began her career in entertainment as a 12-year-old singer that captured the attention of both children and adults with hit songs like Mr. DJ, Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko, and High School Life from a young age. She eventually dabbled in hosting and then acting, successfully making the switch from being a young singer to a renowned screen actress. Early life Sharon Gamboa Cuneta was born on January 6, 1966, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Santa Mesa, Manila, to Pablo Cuneta (1910–2000), a former Mayor of Pasay, who was the longest-serving mayor in the Philippines from 1951 to 1998, and Filipinos of American ancestry Elaine Gamboa (1934–2014), the sister of actress and singer Helen Gamboa. Her early years were spent in San Lorenzo Village, Makati and then in their family home in Paraiso Street Dasmariñas Village, Makati.
