Flash flooding in Bright Angel Canyon near the Grand Canyon triggered aerial evacuations of about 50 people from the Phantom Ranch area, with Phantom Ranch and the North Kaibab Trail closed until further notice. The rain, totaling roughly a quarter to three-quarters of an inch in 30 minutes, caused continued heavy creek flows and led the Red Cross to open a shelter at Grand Canyon High School as authorities warned visitors to stay away from closed zones.
