Overview
Milena Canonero, Dame Grand Cross (born 13 July 1949) is an Italian costume designer, who has worked for both film and stage productions. She has received four Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, and three Costume Designer of America Guild Awards.
She has won four Academy Awards for Best Costume Design for the films Barry Lyndon (1975), Chariots of Fire (1981), Marie Antoinette (2006), and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). She was also nominated for Out of Africa (1985), Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988), Dick Tracy (1990), Titus (1999), and The Affair of the Necklace (2001). She has frequently collaborated with Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, and Wes Anderson.
Canonero was awarded an Honorary Golden Bear in 2017. She is married to actor Marshall Bell.
Early life
Born in Turin, Italy, Canonero studied art, design history and costume design in Genoa. She then moved to England, where she began working in small theatre and film productions. While designing for commercials in London, she met many film directors
