Walter Cup missing during transit to Alberta
The Professional Women's Hockey League confirms that the Walter Cup replica awarded to the Montreal Victoire is missing in transit to Alberta, with the league saying it is working with the shipping company to locate it. The container arrived without the trophy, causing Victoire forward Dara Greig to postpone a planned public day with the trophy. The league notes that the missing item is a close replica used by championship teams, not the NHL's Stanley Cup, which is permanently housed at the Hockey Hall of Fame. The replica is Tiffany & Co.-designed, about 35 pounds, 24 inches tall and 13 inches wide, and features six W’s representing the league’s original six franchises with a puck motif on the base. Montreal clinched the title over Ottawa in May to become the PWHL’s first Canadian champion, while Minnesota had claimed the first two championships. The league is coordinating with shipping partners to determine the cup’s last known location and ensure it is recovered.
